The guide will take you to the most important sights of the fortress, such as the Great Courtyard, Piper’s Park and the Dry Dock, which in its days was among the largest in the world.

Seurasaari open-air museum
Step into a real-life fairytale — where Finland’s past lives among pine trees and sea breeze.
Seurasaari Open-Air Museum, founded in 1909, is located on Seurasaari Island, the museum offers a glimpse into Finnish rural life from the 17th to the 20th century. Explore 87 authentic buildings relocated from various regions of Finland, showcasing the traditional Finnish rural lifestyle.
Imagine crossing a charming wooden bridge to a quiet green island just outside Helsinki. The city fades behind you, and suddenly, you’re walking through centuries of Finnish village life — surrounded by rustic cottages, timbered barns, wooden churches, and the scent of forest in the air.
This isn’t your typical museum — it’s a full sensory escape. A peaceful island where squirrels scurry along the paths, birdsong echoes through the trees, and history unfolds not behind glass, but in the open air, among authentic wooden buildings brought here from every corner of Finland.
You’ll explore:
– A stately farmhouse from Ostrobothnia with carved balconies
– A fisherman’s hut from the Finnish archipelago
– A log-built church from 1685 that still whispers wedding vows from centuries ago
– Simple homes that show how Finnish families once lived, cooked, worked — and dreamed
In summer, guides dressed in traditional costume bring it all to life: spinning yarn, baking bread, telling stories of how things were done long before smartphones, electricity, or even Finland’s independence.
This is where time slows down. You don’t just learn about Finland here — you feel it. The connection to the land. The quiet resilience. The beauty in simplicity.
Insider Tip: Bring a coffee and cinnamon bun (or buy one at the café near the entrance) and enjoy it under the trees — it might be the most peaceful moment of your trip.
This is not a museum you walk through. It’s a story you walk into…
